Technology helps people with Disabilities

I am working on technology and how it helps people with disability. People with disabilities meet barriers of all types. However, technology is helping to lower many of these barriers. By using technology for tasks such as reading and writing documents, communicating with others, and searching for information on the web, students and employees with disabilities are capable of performing a lot of activities.

Kuzweil

There's Kuzweil which is a program that reads everything for one and that is used for people with a reading disability. One can also surf the web on Kurzweil. This program also scans books automated output reads the literature. There is also a tape recorder that records everything one says and can be transferred to the computer through a USB port on your computer. This is used for reading and hearing impaired disabilities. Kurzweil program will type the recording. This program is used for all types of disability.

Refreshable Braille

Most visually impaired people can not see computer screens or use printers but most visually impaired people can use a standard keyboard Braille input are available. Speech output systems can be used to read screen text to computer users who are visually impaired. The program is called Screen Readers it reads computer screens and speaks the text. The availability of earphones for individuals using speech output systems can reduce any distractions in the immediate environment.

Refreshable Braille displays allow line-by-line translation of screen text into Braille on a display area where up and down pins move into Braille configurations as screen text is scanned. Braille displays can be read quickly by those with advanced Braille skills, are good for full editing (e.g., programming and final editing of papers), and do not disrupt others in work areas because they are quiet. Braille printers provide "hard copy" output for users who are visually impaired.

I pod

The popular I pod can also be used for people with disability. One can place a word document a I pod. It will read what is transfer onto I pod through word document. Another program it is called Dragon Naturally Speaking. What the program does is it allows you to use a microphone and talk to the computer. The computer must everything you say but one has to be clear so the computer can hear you.

Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing

There is another program called the Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. This is used to speed up typing. It is used for all kinds of learning disabilities.

The Computer

The Computer is the most important of all technologies because one can type on the computer and research all kinds of stuff. And one can get all kinds of programs for the computer so that it will help with ones disability. The computer also has a Microsoft programs that can help one learn how to do slide shows there are all kinds of programs that can help one keep organized for your day. One can also post all the stuff on a world wide web. Even mobile a mobile phone can help people with disability.
By also keeping people with disability organized because it has a day planner built it to the phone and you can set it so it can recognize your voice so instead of pressing the numbers you can just speak your voice.

There is also a Mini Note Book that helps people that have trouble learning how to write on a computer and it is not that heavy so it can be carried around to the office or wherever you go. And there are places where one can'#39t take out books out, letter, mail, or documents. That is where the scanner comes in. One can use the scanner that will make a copy to do research and get the key points to it.

There is a devise called No Hands Mouse which is a foot pedal for people who have a difficulty using their hands. It has a 360 pressure censors and a 10 inch long cord. Plextalk Player Pnt1 great device for leisure reading. Features are include playback format, plays 5 hours on a built in battery, plays music, slot in loading and large buttons for easy use and a sleep timer. It builds vocabulary and word comprehension, basic language skills and accuracy of writing. And it is used for people who can't spell or look up words.

For some people with visual impairments the standard size of letters on the screen or printed in documents are too small for them to read. Some people cannot tell one color from another.

Special equipment for people who are visually impaired is able to change the display screen or printer output. Computer-generated symbols, both text and graphics, can have larger text on the monitor or printer, thereby allowing some people with low vision to use standard word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, and other software applications.

For individuals with some visual impairment, they have the ability to change the color of the monitor or change the foreground and background colors are also of value. For example, special software can reverse the screen from black on white to white on black for people who are light sensitive. Anti-glare screens can make screens easier to read. Voice output systems are also used by people with low vision.

Speech and hearing disorders alone do not generally step in, with accommodate computer use. However, Advanced Speech is close enough to human quality to act as substitute voices and thus provide a spending tool for students who cannot talk or so good verbally. Students with handheld systems can take part in class discussions; once adapted computers provide them with intelligible speaking voices. Word processing and educational software may also help students who are hearing impaired develop writing skills.

For examples of audio output to help computer users who are hearing impaired. For example, if the sound volume is turned to zero, a computer light may blink on the tower when audio output is normally used.

Educational software where the computer provides multi-sensory experiences, interaction, positive rise, separate instruction, and repeat can be useful in skill building. Some students with learning disabilities who have trouble processing written information can also benefit from completing writing tasks, tutorial lessons, and drill-and-practice work with the help of computers.

Quiet work areas and ear protectors may make computer input easier for user with learning disabilities who are hyper-sensitive to background noise. Software that aids in able and accurate input can also be help. Some people have pay up for high rates of input errors by using spell checkers, thesauruses, and grammar checkers. In addition, word prediction programs software that predicts whole words from fragments) have been used a lot by students with learning disabilities. The macro software which expands a small word can reduce the necessity to help memorize keyboard commands and can ease the entry of commonly used text.

Some individuals with learning disabilities find some devices designed for those with visual impairments useful. In particular, big-print displays, another color on the computer screen and voice output can compensate for some reading problems. People who have a lot of trouble explaining visual material can improve understanding and the ability to identify and correct errors when words are spoken or printed in big fonts.

There is another program out there that can read for you it is called PCVOZ and what it does is it reads to you out loud and clearly so that you can hear it speaking. You could even use it on the internet to read websites, email and your word documents. And it easy to use and install after it is installed all you have to do is do what ever you usually do on the computer whether it be looking up websites or reading your email it can do it all. And it has animated that can help you when you need it. It can speak English and Spanish and now you can relax and make more use out of you time. This program can be used for blind people with low vision or even people with reading disability.

Technology is any item that is use to increase, maintain or improve motion for people with disability. Technology is also any sort of help. It includes computers, switches, and calculators, spelling devices, communication devices and voice synthesizers.

All these devise are used to help people work better in the work force. All these can also help enhance physical or mental ability. An accommodation is also help students to function better in school.

Without technology all people with disabilities would have a hard time going through life. I think technology out there is amazing. There is wonderful technology that's out there like Team Work Cooperative. What this program does is a place person with disabilities into a work environment and to help them learn how to make a resume and cover letter.
